Overview
Competitors are the apps Spek measures you against. They ground the keyword research: what they rank for is the best available evidence of what a market searches.
They live on the Competitors page and in the agent setup, and they are chosen per storefront.
Adding competitors
Search the store from the competitors step or the Competitors page, then add the apps you actually compete with. Add stays pending on that row until the app appears in the tracked list. Your own app, other apps already connected in the workspace, and other listings from the same developer do not appear — those are not competitors. A competitor you added shows in the tracked list and can be removed at any time.
Suggestions
Under Suggested, Spek proposes apps that show up alongside yours: apps that rank for the same terms, and apps the store itself lists as similar.
Suggestions are computed per storefront and are a starting point, not a verdict. You decide who counts as a competitor. Add on a suggestion stays pending the same way as a search add, until that app is tracked.
Why they are per storefront
The apps you compete with in Japan are usually not the ones you compete with in Brazil. Tracking one global competitor set would import the wrong keywords into most of your markets. See markets and storefronts.
Common questions
How many competitors should I add?
At least one per market, and more is better. The agent studies every relevant competitor, and a thin set means thin research.
My app is not on the store yet.
Then competitors are the only place its keyword research can come from, which is why setup insists on them.
